UNC's interdisciplinary environment hub — the Environment, Ecology and Energy Program (E3P) — grants a research MS in Ecology: a minimum of 30 credit hours, at least 24 in coursework drawn from departments across the university, plus an independent research thesis. Applicants come from natural science, social science, mathematics, engineering or environmental science backgrounds, and an MA variant substitutes a literature-review paper for the thesis for those headed to practice rather than the lab.
